Restoring a Moth Damaged Persian Gabbeh Rug in NYC
As even a casual reader of this blog knows, moths can inflict a great amount of damage to any wool rug. They work silently and often in the dark, so once we discover a moth infestation, a good few areas of our rugs can be damaged. The full extent of the damage is not even known until after a good cleaning can eliminate the moth infestation, and dislodge any compromised fibers that are, quite literally, hanging on by a single thread. This is why we highly recommend a regular inspection schedule for all our clients' rugs and kilims. It is important to periodically examine rugs thoroughly, especially those rugs that live under heavy furniture like beds, armoires, or sofas.
