Turkish kilim cleaning and repair in NYC

 

We recently had a beautiful Turkish kilim brought to us with significant damage along its fringed edge.  While resizing is always an option, we are very glad that the client chose to have the fringe and kilim edge restored.  We first professionally cleaned the kilim.  This is an important first step so that the colored yarns used in the restoration match the cleaned kilim's colors. Next, we affixed the kilim to a table loom so that we could reconstruct the warp.  Below is a photo of newly stretched out warp.

After reconstructing the warp, we then wove in the missing kilim edge and cut it off the loom to finish off the fringe.  Below is a photo of our completed kilim fringe restoration project.  --www.traditionalrugrepair.com
