Persign Rug Restoration - Water Damage

Recently, we worked on a Persian rug restoration project to fix damage that was caused by a planter that was slowly and steadily leaking water onto the rug it was sitting on top of.   We had to remove all the damaged fibers and reconstruct the warp, pile, and weft.  Water damage can happen slowly or quickly, as in the case of a flood, but in any case, the damage can be extensive.  For this reason, I always warn to keep pots and planters on elevated stands when they are on top of rugs.  Similarly, air conditioning units should be checked regularly to ensure they are not slowly leaking onto a rug on the same spot.  An occasional spill is usually nothing to worry about, but water can be a great enemy to a fine handwoven rug. --
