Oriental rug fringe repair

A rug's fringes play an important part in protecting the pile of the rug.  Sometimes, when they've been severely damaged, people can attach machine-made fringes to serve this function.  These machine-made fringes never function like the rug's original fringes in that they're merely sewn onto the rug's end.  For this reason, they are often a temporary solution but an effective one especially for cosmetic reasons.  These kinds of fringes almost always eventually fail, however, as shown in the photo above.  In these cases, we will sew on another machine-made fringe, unless the rug is valuable enough to warrant a full fringe restoration, which is a very lengthy and elaborate project.
