Antique Turkish Kilim Rug Repair - Before

 

This lovely antique kilim originates from the Konya region of Turkey.  It is a fine example of Turkish weaving and is as stunning today as it ever has been.  There were various areas of wear and more significant damage, including several torn areas of the center field.  We first professionally cleaned the kilim before the yarn hunt began.  Matching yarns is always a tricky step when it involves an antique piece, but it is crucial that it be done with the utmost care.  Our goal is for a rewoven section to blend into the original as much as possible not calling attention to itself.  Getting the right yarns for the job is critical to achieve this goal.  In our next posts, we will share our progress and results.  ---www.traditionalrugrepair.com
